The inclusion of "swept" as part of the title is fitting; this piece is wide ranging and sweeping. The dynamics are wonderful, and I mean that in several senses. You not only have volume and tempo dynamics, but instrumental and sectional variations, all creating pushes and pulls within the flow of the piece. I enjoyed the journey from ambient strings and woodwinds to driving brass, as though the piece is a storm, with all the calms and crashes that come with it. What particularly brought it together for me, however, was no matter how far the piece wandered into different realms of instrumentation, a refrain could always be found recurring in some new way.
The only reason I didn't give this a full 5-stars is merely a personal grievance, and nothing to do with the quality of the composition. Part of a recurring set of notes reminds me of "We Three Kings," and--though this is of little importance, as I said, regarding the quality of the arrangement--the nagging familiarity of it detracted the overall listening experience.
